PDF templates & branding

Every invoice, quote, and credit memo is rendered as a PDF using a template. Chargd ships with built-in templates for each document type, and Pro users can customize them with their own branding.

Browsing templates

Go to Templates to see the gallery, every built-in template, including Pro-only ones, with a live preview. Free users can browse and preview all of them, even ones they can't select yet.

Free tier includes 3 PDF templates: Classic, Minimal, and Nordic.

Pro tier unlocks 11 additional templates (14 total across invoices, quotes, and credit memos), plus the ability to customize any template with your own branding. You can check the exact template count for your version any time under Settings → Licence.

Click a template card to open its preview modal, which renders a full sample PDF in under two seconds.

Setting your default template

Go to Settings → Documents and choose your default invoice and quote template from the dropdowns. Every new document uses this default unless you override it.

Overriding the template for one document

While building a specific invoice or quote, use the template selector in the builder to pick a different template just for that document, useful for one-off formal proposals, for example. This is a Pro feature.

Customizing a template (Pro)

1. From the Template gallery, click Customize (or Fork) on a built-in template to create your own editable copy.
2. In the template editor, upload your logo (PNG or SVG, it's auto-scaled to fit) and set a brand color with the hex picker.
3. Changes preview live as you edit (under 1.5 seconds).
4. Save your customized template, it now appears in your template list, ready to set as default or apply per-document.

You can duplicate a customized template to create variations, and manage all your custom templates (rename, set default, delete) from the same screen.

Template locking

Once a document using a customized template is sent, that exact template version is locked to the document, even if you later change your default or edit the customization, previously-sent documents keep rendering exactly as they did when sent. Documents using a free built-in template aren't locked, so they automatically benefit from any future improvements to that template.

The "Made with Chargd" watermark

Free-tier PDFs include a small "Made with Chargd" footer. Upgrading to Pro removes it.
